Jordi Savall is one of the most versatile musical personalities of his generation. For more than fifty years he has been introducing the world to musical wonders that have remained in the obscurity of indifference and oblivion. Dedicated to researching these ancient musics, he reads and performs them with his viola da gamba or as a conductor. His activities as a concert performer, pedagogue, researcher and creator of new projects, both musical and cultural, make him one of the main architects of the phenomenon of revalorization of historical music. He is the founder, together with Montserrat Figueras, of the musical groups Hespèrion XXI (1974), La Capella Reial de Catalunya (1987) and Le Concert des Nations (1989), with which he explores and creates a universe of emotion and beauty, offering it to the world and to millions of music lovers.

With his pivotal participation in Alain Corneau’s film All the Mornings in the World (winner of the César Award for Best Soundtrack), his intense activity as a concert performer (about 140 concerts a year), his discography (6 recordings a year), and the creation in 1998, with Montserrat Figueras, of his own record label, Alia Vox, Jordi Savall proves that early music is not necessarily elitist, but instead interests a large and increasingly diverse audience of all ages.

Over the course of his long career, he has recorded and released more than 230 discs of repertoire from medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, and classical periods, with a special focus on the Hispanic and Mediterranean musical heritage, discs that have merited many honors, such as Midem Awards, International Classical Music Awards, and a Grammy Award. His concert programs have made music a mediating tool for understanding and peace between different and sometimes conflicting peoples and cultures. It was no coincidence that in 2008 Jordi Savall was appointed European Union Ambassador for Intercultural Dialogue and, together with Montserrat Figueras, was elected “Artist for Peace” as part of UNESCO’s Goodwill Ambassadors program.

Between 2020 and 2021, on the occasion of Ludwig van Beethoven’s 250th anniversary, he conducted the complete set of his symphonies with the orchestra Le Concert des Nations and recorded them on two CDs entitled Beethoven Révolution. Its impact on the international record market has even been described as “a miracle” (Fanfare), and German critics awarded Volume II the Schallplattenkritik Prize as the best orchestral disc.

His fruitful musical career has been rewarded with the highest national and international honors, including the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from the Universities of Évora (Portugal), Barcelona, Leuven (Belgium), Basel (Switzerland) and Utrecht (P
